The text identifies the various social and economic struggles, the barriers to social services and medical care and language competence and thus the need for a better understanding of cultures to better serve all populations.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course the learner will be able to:

1. Gain an understanding of the various ethnicities in the United States.
2. Explore the histories of each population as they became part of the American way of life.
3. Understand how important diversity is when working with different cultures.
