Florida Laws and Rules for Clinical Laboratory Personnel
This course reviews the Florida statutes and administrative rules governing licensed clinical laboratory personnel. Participants will examine the purpose and authority of the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel, licensure and renewal requirements, license levels and specialties, scope of practice, supervision and delegation, continuing education responsibilities, professional conduct, mandatory reporting, disciplinary grounds, and penalties for violations.
The course emphasizes the practical responsibilities of clinical laboratory directors, supervisors, technologists, technicians, and public health laboratory personnel under Chapter 483, Part I, Florida Statutes; applicable provisions of Chapter 456, Florida Statutes; and Chapter 64B3, Florida Administrative Code. Participants will review how Florida law applies to routine laboratory situations involving specimen testing, result reporting, quality control, competency, delegation, expired or delinquent licenses, practice outside an authorized specialty, continuing education documentation, and reporting of criminal or professional disciplinary actions.
The course also reviews recent statutory changes affecting personnel qualifications and explains how Florida personnel licensure works alongside federal CLIA requirements. The goal is to help licensees recognize their individual legal responsibilities and maintain compliant, safe, and ethical laboratory practice.
