Florida Master’s Level Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP) Initial Application Content Specific Training

The Master’s Level Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP) is a professional credential awarded by the Florida Certification Board for people who provide services to individuals with substance use conditions.

MCAP applicants must hold a master’s degree or higher in a related field.  They must complete 161 hours of content-specific training (this course will meet this requirement), in addiction, related work experience, on-the-job supervision with references, and an exam.  

The clinical domains of the MCAP include:

  • Clinical Evaluation
  • Treatment Planning
  • Counseling
  • Case Management and Referral
  • Client, Family and Community Education 
  • Documentation
  • Ethical and Professional Responsibilities
  • Clinical Supervision

This course is comprised of multiple lessons that cover the Florida Certification Board requirements of:

  1. Understanding Addiction: 45 hours
  2. Treatment Knowledge: 45 hours
  3. Application to Practice: 20 hours
  4. Professional Readiness: 20 hours *includes HIV/Aids 4 hours and Domestic Violence 2 hours
  5. Clinical Supervision: 16 hours*
  6. Electives:15 hours

This course will award 161 continuing education hours.  Please see the board approval box for course approvals.
