This course will review the statistics and prevalence of domestic violence in our society. We will define domestic violence and its various types of abuse.
The course will review the dynamics of the violent relationship. Violent relationships follow a predictable cycle of violence. This course will discuss this cycle and review its patterns and way to screen through multiple case studies. The course will delve into special populations and associated risk factors. Upon completion of the course, the professional will have an understanding of specific resources available for those in need.

Ms. Robertson, M.Ed., CAP, NCC, LMHC, is a Licensed Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida. She is credentialed in alcohol and other drug counseling as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Professional. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Professional Counseling program. She worked in the psychiatric hospital setting for approximately 4 years and then in private practice for 12 years. She has worked with adults, adolescents, and couples with both court-ordered and voluntary treatment. She expanded her work to include training other professionals through continuing education and has presented and authored over 50 programs nationally on mental health and health care topics.

Course Completion Information: To earn continuing education credit, professionals must register and pay the fee for the course. They must read the content and demonstrate understanding by earning a minimum of 80 percent on testing materials. They also must complete the course evaluation. The certificate of completion will be able to be downloaded after the above is completed. The certificate will remain on the individual’s transcript.
