Burning mouth syndrome is the generally used medical term for chronic or recurrent burning in the mouth without an obvious cause.
This course gives a working knowledge of the key factors related to burning mouth syndrome and the psychological components, pathogenesis, treatments, and necessity for patient education.
This course will award 2 continuing education hours.

- Discuss possible etiologies for Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS).
- Understand the mechanisms involved in the nerve supply to the oral tissues and the association with BMS.
- Determine the possibility of a diagnosis of BMS by ruling out other disease processes that may mimic BMS.
- Explain key oral symptoms of BMS.
- Provide a one-page patient education handout to a patient who is diagnosed with BMS or develop your own for distribution.
