Professional Responsibility CRPS
This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the legal and ethical frameworks guiding peer support and counseling professions. Participants will delve into federal, state, and other governing laws and regulations, emphasizing ethics, values, and professional conduct, including Codes of Conduct. The program also explores the philosophy of peer support, addressing boundary issues, confidentiality, and effective documentation practices.
This course meets the 4 hour requirement for the Professional Responsibilities domain.
This course will award 4 continuing education hours.

- Identify and explain the key legal frameworks and regulations at the federal and state levels that impact the practice of peer support. Participants will learn how to apply these laws in their daily interactions and services.
- Examine the ethical principles and values that guide peer support professionals. Participants will analyze real-life scenarios to understand the importance of adhering to established codes of conduct and making ethical decisions.
- Understand the foundational philosophies underpinning peer support practices. This includes exploring the historical context, core principles, and the role of lived experience in shaping peer relationships.
- Learn strategies for establishing and maintaining professional boundaries. Participants will engage in discussions and role-plays to better recognize and address boundary challenges in peer support settings.
- Understand the legal and ethical obligations regarding confidentiality. Participants will learn how to safeguard personal information and handle confidential data in accordance with best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Acquire the skills necessary for accurate and effective documentation in peer support. Training will focus on the types of documentation required, the importance of clear and concise writing, and the implications of record-keeping.
- Recognize the importance of supervision and consultation in enhancing peer support work. Participants will learn how to actively seek and use supervision and consultation to improve their practice and ensure compliance with ethical standards.
