Understanding Addiction -Florida Certification Board MCAP
Addiction is characterized by the inability to abstain consistently, impairment in behavioral control, craving, diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships, and a dysfunctional emotional response.
The Florida Certification Board approves this course and meets the 45-hour requirement for the Understanding Addiction Domain for the initial application for MCAP credentials. - Understanding Co-Occurring Conditions: Equip students with the knowledge to identify, assess, and effectively address co-occurring mental health disorders alongside addiction, emphasizing the importance of integrated treatment approaches.
- Exploring Etiology/Causation of Addiction: Investigate various theories and factors contributing to the development of addiction, including genetic, environmental, psychological, and social determinants, fostering a comprehensive understanding of addiction’s root causes.
- Promoting Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care: Foster an understanding of recovery-oriented approaches to addiction treatment, emphasizing empowerment, hope, and person-centered care, while also exploring strategies to navigate systemic barriers and promote holistic wellness.
- Engaging Families in Recovery: Develop skills for involving and supporting families in the recovery process, emphasizing communication, education, and the role of familial dynamics in sustaining long-term recovery, with a focus on fostering healthy relationships and resilience.

- Course Completion Information: To earn continuing education credit, professionals must register and pay the fee for the course. The certificate of completion will be able to be downloaded after the above is completed. Refunds will be granted upon request with the withdrawal of credit for the course.
