Florida Information Protection Act
The Florida Information Protection Act, also known as FIPA, was created to protect confidential personal information held by covered entities and third party agents. The law requires organizations to take reasonable measures to protect personal information, respond appropriately to breaches of security, notify affected individuals when required, and report certain breaches to the Florida Department of Legal Affairs.
This course will explore the purpose and scope of FIPA, the types of personal information protected under the law, breach notification requirements, the responsibilities of third party agents, proper disposal of customer records, enforcement, penalties, and best practices for compliance.

- Relevance: This course is designed for master’s level counselors and social workers, addiction professionals, nurses, behavioral health providers, administrative staff, compliance personnel, and other professionals who collect, maintain, store, or use personal information in the course of providing services. This course will help professionals understand Florida’s requirements for protecting confidential personal information, responding to breaches of security, working with third party agents, and maintaining responsible privacy and security practices.

- Course Completion Information: To earn continuing education credit, professionals must register and pay the fee for the course. They must read the content and demonstrate understanding by earning a minimum score of 70 percent on testing materials. The certificate of completion will be able to be downloaded after the above is completed. Refunds will be granted upon request with the withdrawal of credit for the course.
