Florida Laws and Rules Pertaining to the Mental Health Field Update-3 Hours
This course meets the requirements for the 3-hour Florida Laws and Rules Update required every third biennium for license renewal. It is not the 8-hour initial licensure course. Please see below for the 8-hour Laws and Rules course.
The course is developed by extrapolating Florida Statutes that pertain to the counseling profession. The course utilizes law, changes in statutes, examples, and case studies.
This course will award 3 continuing education hours.

- Explain the specifics of the Florida Evidence Code Chapter 90.503 regarding Psychotherapist-Patient Privilege.
- Explain F.S. 2000, Chapter 456, as it pertains to Professional Regulations in
- Florida.
- Explain F.S. 2000, Chapter 491, and Rule 64-B4 as they pertain to Florida law and the licensing board’s rules for Clinical Counseling and Psychotherapy Services.
- Discuss client confidentiality, informed consent, and client rights and
- their impact on services provided.
- Discuss the impact of technology on psychotherapy and how to keep information safe.

- System Requirements: This course is offered online. Internet connection required.
- Course Completion Information: To earn continuing education credit, professionals must register and pay the fee for the course. They must read the content and demonstrate understanding by earning a minimum score of 70 percent on testing materials. The certificate of completion will be able to be downloaded after the above is completed. Refunds will be granted upon request with the withdrawal of credit for the course.
