Pain Management For Dentistry
Dentists prescribe approximately 9% of opioid analgesics dispensed by outpatient U.S. retail pharmacies annually and are the leading prescribers for patients aged 10 to 19.
This course is designed to help dental professionals navigate the complexities of pain management, focusing on identifying risk factors, optimizing effective treatment strategies, and minimizing potential risks associated with analgesic use in dental care.
This course will award 1 continuing education hour.

- Examine the significance of dentistry in pain management and raise awareness about opioids for this specific patient group.
- Recognize patient risk factors and consider treatment considerations when prescribing pain medication.
- Explore guidelines for the appropriate use of pain therapies for both acute and chronic pain, while also delving into alternative pain control methods that could be advantageous for this demographic.
- Review commonly utilized pain medications, pinpoint contraindications for prescribing in patients with chemical dependence, and pinpoint effective pain therapy approaches for at-risk populations.
