American Disabilities Act (ADA), Affirmative Duty, and Chapter V for Recovery Professionals

This course will explore the Americans with Disability Act of 1990 exploring specifically for those with alcohol and drug issues, both as a disability and with other disabilities in need of substance abuse treatment.

 

This course will award 2 continuing education hours.

Course Objectives

  1. Discuss the American Disability Act and its five titles.
  2. Discuss the definition of “disability”.
  3. Discuss who is covered and who is not.
  4. Discuss employment issues relating to the ADA and Title V, including Affirmative Action.
  5. Explain the direct threat aspect of substance abuse.

Leesa M. Robertson, M.Ed., CAP, LMHC

Ms. Robertson, M.Ed., CAP, LMHC, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia. She is credentialed in alcohol and other drug counseling.

Beginning her career in the hospital setting, working in admissions, on the 24-hour unit, inpatient and IOP for both adults and adolescents, she went on to supervise a group of clinicians that went into medical-surgical hospitals to assess and place patients. She went into the outpatient setting, working with adults and families. Throughout her career, Ms. Robertson has focused on training and education through presenting live and authored coursework.
