Discipline, Care and Management of Children in Residential Day Treatment in Pennsylvannia

This course provides Pennsylvania youth residential staff with a practical understanding of appropriate discipline, care, and management of children in accordance with Chapter 3800 expectations. Participants will learn how to support children using trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and dignity-based approaches while avoiding prohibited or harmful disciplinary practices. The course reviews child rights, staff boundaries, active supervision, behavior management, de-escalation strategies, documentation expectations, and the importance of recognizing when conduct or incidents may require internal reporting or mandated reporting. Emphasis is placed on maintaining safety, consistency, respect, and accountability while helping youth build skills and manage behavior in a structured residential setting.
