Hypersensitivity
Dental hypersensitivity is a common problem that affects many dental patients. This course will explore the prevention and over-the-counter treatments, including desensitizing kinds of toothpaste and in-office treatments.
This course will award 4 continuing education hours.

- Describe the biological and physiological mechanisms that lead to dental hypersensitivity.
- Identify the structural changes in dental tissues that contribute to sensitivity.
- List common risk factors associated with dental hypersensitivity, including dietary habits, oral hygiene practices, and certain dental procedures.
- Recognize the triggers that exacerbate sensitivity in patients, such as cold, heat, sweet, or acidic foods.
- Demonstrate the ability to conduct a thorough patient history and clinical examination to diagnose dental hypersensitivity effectively.
- Differentiate dental hypersensitivity from other dental conditions with similar symptoms.
- Evaluate various treatment modalities for dental hypersensitivity, including topical agents, restorative approaches, and desensitizing products.
- Assess the effectiveness and suitability of each treatment option based on patient-specific factors.
- Develop strategies for preventing the onset or worsening of dental hypersensitivity through patient education on oral hygiene, dietary choices, and protective measures.
