This course will explore the requirements for reporting child and elder abuse in Ohio. We will look at which professionals are required to report.  We will explore the timeline for reporting and the procedures that must take place.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the user will be able to:

  1. Identify the signs and symptoms of abuse of children and/or the elderly.
  2. Identify who is mandated to report suspected abuse.
  3. Identify how to make contact the Department of Children and Families.
  4. Identify what information is needed to make a report.
  5. Discuss the Florida legislation regarding reporting abuse.

  • Relevance: his course is designed for master's level counselors, addiction professionals, and nurses who work in a Florida setting where they will come in contact with vulnerable populations who might be experiencing abuse.

  • Course Format: This course is offered as a self-paced distance learning format (reading-based online activity)
  • System Requirements: This course is offered online. Internet connection required.
  • Course Completion Information: To earn continuing education credit, professionals must register and pay the fee for the course.  They must read the content and demonstrate understanding by earning a minimum score of 70 percent on testing materials.  The certificate of completion will be able to be downloaded after the above is completed.
