Medication Administration Training and Laws For Non-Licensed Professionals: Ohio Laws

This course reviews the difference between medication administration and assisting with medication self-administration, as well as the goals, roles, and responsibilities of unlicensed personnel in medication assistance. It reviews the Ohio statutes but is not intended as legal advice.

This course will award 1 continuing education hour.

Course Objectives

  1. Understand the difference between what is meant by administering, self-administering, and assisting with medication.
  2. Discuss the medical terminology associated with medications.
  3. Understand the difference between brand and generic medications.
  4. Explain what an indication and counterindication is.

Ms. Robertson, M.Ed., CAP, LMHC, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia. She is credentialed in alcohol and other drug counseling.

Beginning her career in the hospital setting, working in admissions, on the 24-hour unit, inpatient and IOP for both adults and adolescents, she went on to supervise a group of clinicians that went into medical-surgical hospitals to assess and place patients. She went into the outpatient setting, working with adults and families. Throughout her career, Ms. Robertson has focused on training and education through presenting live and authored coursework.
