Diabetes Management Training

This course provides direct access workers with required in-service training in diabetes management for assisting clients with diabetes in activities of daily living. Topics include dietary requirements; diabetic oral medications and adverse reactions, including hyperglycemic and hypoglycemic reactions and appropriate interventions; insulin storage; injection techniques and site rotation; foot care; laboratory testing, including urine testing and blood glucose monitoring; and standard precautions. Training is provided by a registered professional nurse, with documentation of successful completion maintained in the worker’s record.
