Counseling and Social Services

Ethical Risk Managed Record Keeping

In the mental health field records are maintained for a variety of reasons, the most important of which is the benefit of the client and continuity of care. Records allow a psychologist, counselor, or social worker to document and review the delivery of psychological services. The nature and extent of the record will vary depending upon the type and purpose of psychological services. Records can provide a history and current status in the event of a necessary referral or legal need.

This course will provide an overview of the necessity for proper record keeping. The guidelines for documentation, storage, confidentiality, and laws governing client records will be examined.

This course will award 2 continuing education hours.  Please see board approval information below.
