Hematology Essentials: CBC, Coagulation, Peripheral Smear Review, and Critical Values
This course reviews essential hematology concepts, including complete blood count interpretation, coagulation testing, peripheral blood smear evaluation, and the recognition and reporting of critical values. Participants will examine common testing concerns, abnormal findings, quality practices, and the laboratory’s role in supporting accurate and timely patient care.
Course Objectives
- Describe the components and clinical significance of the complete blood count.
- Explain common coagulation tests and factors that may affect results.
- Recognize basic peripheral blood smear findings and their relationship to hematologic conditions.
- Identify critical hematology values and apply appropriate result verification, documentation, and reporting procedures.
