Understanding the significance of relapse prevention, identifying common risk factors, and implementing effective strategies are essential steps in helping a client achieve long-term recovery.

This course will explore what addiction and relapse are, the stages of each, how to develop a relapse prevention plan and how to identify triggers.

This course will award 1 continuing education hour.

  2. Identify what a trigger is and how they play into relapse.
  3. Create a relapse prevention plan.
  4. Understand craving and compulsion.
  5. Discuss tolerance and dependence.

  • Relevance: This course is designed for master's level counselors and social workers, addiction professionals, and nurses who work with individuals suffering from addiction and in early recovery.  
  • Content Level: Intermediate
  • Course Format: This course is offered as a self-paced distance learning format (reading-based online activity)
  • System Requirements: This course is offered online. Internet connection required.
  • Course Completion Information: To earn continuing education credit, professionals must register and pay the fee for the course.  They must read the content and demonstrate understanding by earning a minimum score of 70 percent on testing materials.  The certificate of completion will be able to be downloaded after the above is completed.
