The recent events of terror, storm destruction, and wildfires have punctuated the importance of educating all healthcare providers on emergency preparedness and bioterrorism.

This course will discuss emergencies and disasters both natural and man-made.  We will explore what should be included in emergency response plans and what is needed in preparation.  We will look at how mental health professionals can respond to trauma.

This course will award 2 continuing education hours.

Course Objectives

  1. Describe the repercussions emergencies and disasters have and how they affect mental health and the health care systems.
  2. Describe man-made disasters, bioterrorism, and other emergencies.
  3. Explain the importance of planning emergency preparedness with regard to mental health issues.
  4. Identify key aspects of mental health with regard to disaster response.

Mr. Crutchfield is a certified alcohol and drug counselor who has over 15 years of experience working with substance abuse issues. He is certified in both Georgia and Florida.
