Understanding the Psychology of Catfishing (Dating Scams) and Falling for Financial Scams

When someone is scammed or “catfished,” they are often embarrassed and feel vulnerable and may not reach out to others for support when needed. This course will explore the psychology behind those most vulnerable, those who prey on others, and working with clients who were taken advantage of.

Anyone can be a victim of being scammed regardless of age, education, or socioeconomic position

 

This course will award 1 continuing education hour.

Course Objectives

  1. Describe the psychology that causes people to be “catfished” or scammed.
  2. Describe the psychology behind people who catfish or scam others.
  3. Identify strategies to bolster clients who are most susceptible.
  4. Identify strategies to work with someone who has gone through this experience.

  • Course Completion Information: To earn continuing education credit, professionals must register and pay the fee for the course.  They must read the content and demonstrate understanding by earning a minimum score of 70 percent on testing materials.  The certificate of completion will be able to be downloaded after the above is completed.
