Informed Care in Clinical Practice: Skills for Person-Centered Planning, Risk Assessment, and Evidence-Based Intervention

This course is designed to enhance clinical competence in delivering informed, person-centered care. It equips mental health professionals with practical interviewing and communication strategies, introduces research-based treatment approaches, and strengthens assessment skills for identifying and managing clinical risk factors such as suicide, violence, and other high-risk behaviors. Participants will also learn how to collaboratively develop effective safety plans that align with ethical and legal standards of care.

This course will award 1 continuing education hour.

Course Objectives

  1. Apply person-centered interviewing and communication strategies in clinical interactions.
  2. Integrate research-based treatment models into care planning.
  3. Identify clinical risk factors, including suicide, violence, and high-risk behaviors.
  4. Conduct effective risk assessments and implement appropriate interventions.
  5. Develop collaborative, individualized safety plans with clients at risk.

Ms. Robertson, M.Ed., CAP, LMHC, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia. She is credentialed in alcohol and other drug counseling.

Beginning her career in the hospital setting, working in admissions, on the 24-hour unit, inpatient and IOP for both adults and adolescents, she went on to supervise a group of clinicians that went into medical-surgical hospitals to assess and place patients. She went into the outpatient setting, working with adults and families. Throughout her career, Ms. Robertson has focused on training and education through presenting live and authored coursework.
